We've survived enough of 2024 to make it to the "ber" months! Even though this isn't the start of a new quarter, it feels like a mental shift every year and feels like a good time to check in and make sure I'm on track for my goals for this year.
In a couple of weeks, I'll go back to my quarterly planning through HB90, but I kind of missed the planning this quarter, so I'm itching to get back to it for Q4. Lord knows I'm gonna need it.
But there is one goal that I have been slack off on, maybe even my biggest goal. I had a goal this year to write 300,000 words throughout the year.
As you can see, we're a little behind. So, it's time to take some drastic measures to get to that 300,000 words. Later today, I'll start my draft of Project Whisper and my goal is 50,000 words this month. Yes, it'll be like my own little NaNoWriMo.
If I win, I'm buying myself a bottle of Writers Tears whiskey because I'm sure there will be plenty of tears in this book (I cry like it's my professional sport).
October is a busy month, so I'll probably flex down to about 30,000 words for October to finish this draft and write the next one, Part Two, for Novemeber.
Because I'm doing NaNoWriMo again in November, though I'm not sure what I'll write. Maybe Part Two? That's another 50,000 words. If I win that one, I'll splurge for a NaNoWriMo reward/birthday present to myself and get a walking pad for my standing desk.
I don't always have time to go walk at the local park, because there is just so much going on in my life, and that's never more true than in Q4. I think a walking pad would be a great way for me to be more consistent with staying active and getting it done during work, which I have to do every day anyway.
With that plan, that takes me to 130,000 words, leaving me with about 19,000 words to go.
Well, the week between Christmas and New Years, I have off, or will at least be working minimal hours. I'm going to try and write 50,000 words during that week.
I have no doubt thatI'll fail, that's 10,000 words a day for five days if I don't count the weekend. But, I want to do push myself to see how fast I can write over a week.
The race is on, even though I'm the only one in it. I've really learned over the past few years, I have no interest in racing other people, I just want to push myself to do better every time.
Provided I get enough sleep, cause this insomniac doesn't get much of it.
Whether you work today, have today off as a holiday, or it's just your normal day off (hello third option), I hope you have a safe and wonderful Labor Day.
I'll see y'all later.
